Session Five: Where did it all begin?

While I wasn't present this morning, it looked like an AWESOME session! Way to rock out the quiz bowl. Check out below for responses to unanswered questions following session 5!

What are we curious about?

• Does it look like AET will become a national standard?
• I hope Dr. Foster chimes in on this one! But given that many states are going to affiliate membership and in turn with affiliate memberships comes an AET subscription, yes.

• How do we assess teacher candidate competency in the area of SAE?
• First, through the SAE implementation assignment it is hoped that teacher candidates gain the background knowledge and critical ideas behind SAE and incorporate it in their implementation program. Additionally, AEE 295 and AEE 413, two courses that you will take in the fall of your senior year cover quite a bit of material relating to SAE, including engaging in an actual SAE visit with our cooperating centers. • Will FFA and all of the associated programs ever make sense? Having no ag ed or FFA background, I find it all very confusing.

• A wonderful and fellow 2015 cohort member Carly-Jean Schaefer has previously expressed the exact same sentiments to me when starting out in AEE. Now as we prepare to embark on our student teaching journey, Carly-Jean has grown leaps and bounds in her knowledge. She "drank the Kool-Aid" as I like to call her. • Who are other prominent figures in the ag ed community?
• Well... this could warrant another lengthy answer, but this is a good place to start!
• Are there quiz bowl FFA questions already made online?
• Well even if there were...having students look for the quiz bowl questions allows for additional learning for students and prepares them to answer the questions correctly.
• What AET looks like from the teacher side?
• All four TAs have teacher access, stop one of us in the beginning of class and we can let you take a peek!
• What would a typical day be like an ag teacher?
• The National Teach Ag Campaign has a great blog about this, check it out!

Session Two: What are professional expectations?

After a great second session, we left class today equipped with the challenge of pushing ourselves and our students to ask the question "why?" and remain conscious of the status quo. Additionally, we identified reasons that we join organizations, mapped out the remainder of the course, and last but not least started our journey with AET! Let's challenge ourselves to use AET to it's fullest potential, feel free to contact any of us for fun ideas!

Ticket Out Responses Session 2:

• What are we curious about?
• Managing multiple project books in AET
• Under "journal" at the top of the page after logging in,  click "develop your AET experiences" and then "add new." Once your experience is added, you can continue to enter more projects this way.
• How to use the POA to recruit and retain students
• When developing your POA implementation plan, one way to use it as a recruitment tool is to develop your standing committees in a way that is fun and inciting! For example, my implementation plan had very goofy name for each committee. Hold onto this question for our two sessions on POA. If you would like to take a look at my project, let me know!
• If we develop that competition and championship attitude, how can we also cultivate an "other focused mentality"
• Holy cow, this is a good question. I am hoping that Dr. Foster adds this thoughts to this one in the comments, but I would be happy to offer my personal feelings. If you are creating that "championship" mindset, why can't that include being champions of giving back? 
• Why is adolescence viewed negatively?

• We have a session dedicated to this in Decemeber!

• This is available more so on the advisor features. Personally, I am hoping to get a feel for this as well. I should be people to add students for access to play around with the website. Any students who are interested, please contact me.
•  Percentage of schools that use AET for record keeping.
• I do not know if this number exists, but I can tell you that all states that have affiliation membership for ag education (meaning ALL ag ed students are also FFA members) have access to AET, including Pennsylvania.

• We have a session on this in December! But keep this in mind while planning out the four projects. What pieces can you add that make students want to be a part of it?

The Agricultural Experience Tracker (AET)

Hello all!

To help you develop the skills to help your students develop financial literacy skills and entrepreneurial spirit, we will be asking you as students in AEE 311 to keep records throughout the semester in the AET system. (http://theaet.com)

The information you need to log in includes:

Chapter:       PSU
Username:    your PSU access id (for example: ddf12)
Password:    psuaee (you can change once in)

More will be shared in class, but feel free explore and play with the site!
